Overview

Job Summary:

* Examines patients with breathing-related conditions and conducts diagnostic testing. Consults with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient. Performs physiotherapy and other treatments and teaches patients to use medications.
* PRN/As needed

Job Duties:

* Measures lung capacity and collects specimen for arterial blood gases
* Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Procedures/Treatments include, but not limited to the following: aerosol treatments, continuous nebulizers, incentive spirometry, IPPB, oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, EKGs, exercise tolerance test, holter monitoring, CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator, HiVNI and Vest Therapy
* Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
* Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.
* Educates the patient and family about the patient’s illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.
* Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
* Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
* Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.
* Handle with Care participation annually or CPI participation every 2 years.

Job Requirements:

* Minimum EducationCertification or Degree in Respiratory Therapy required
* Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
American Heart Association or American Red Cross Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of employment, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 12 months of employment
License: Current TN RRT or CRT licensure
* Minimum Work ExperienceSix months to one year experience in Respiratory preferred. New graduates will be considered.
